Smarx Cloud Security (WEB API): Secure Access to Web Content

30 July 2013

Smarx Cloud Security is a security technology that allows a web server to communicate via HTTP with the CRYPTO-BOX attached to the client’s computer. No customer specific software is needed on the client’s computer. It works with all standard web browsers.

This secure communication between the client and online-services of Smarx Cloud Security can be used for various scenarios:

  • Secure user authentication for web sites/portals.
  • Licensing of web based applications and services to end-users. Only users with a valid license on the CRYPTO-BOX, either attached to a local computer or in the network, will have access to the web content.
  • Automation of remote updates of licensing information stored inside the CRYPTO-BOX. in comparison to the Remote Update Management System (RUMS) no manual processing is required for the update process.

A sample and more details are available here. Please scroll down the page to start the WEB API online demo which demonstrates how to access a CRYPTO-BOX at the end-user’s site. It requires a CRYPTO-BOX with demo codes (contained in the Evaluation Kit). This revised edition of the sample includes the following new features:

  • Access to the CRYPTO-BOX connected either to the local USB port of the computer or on the network.
  • Support for Notification (automatic detection if a CRYPTO-BOX is attached or removed).
  • Binding the license to a specified computer or location.

The sample is written in PHP. Examples for Java/JSP and ASP.NET are also available. To test the sample, a CRYPTO-BOX with demo codes (contained in the Evaluation Kit) is required.

An updated WEB API client setup (version 5.1.13.611) for Windows is available at our download area. It automatically installs the required CRYPTO-BOX drivers and the WEB API client component and supports the latest versions of Internet Explorer, Firefox, Chrome, Safari and Opera.

A revised Smarx Cloud Security White Paper can be found here.
